Gifted and Talented Program

The Morris School District provides a comprehensive educational program for all students. The Gifted and Talented Program is one of our special area programs designed to modify and/or extend the established core curriculum to meet the educational needs of students who have been identified as gifted and talented. There is a multiple set of criteria used throughout the student identification process which meets with best practice design. The program begins in February of the 3rd grade year for students in each of our schools and continues up through 8th grade.

Teachers within the program employ a variety of instructional strategies to provide specialized learning activities for gifted and talented students, including but not limited to:

  • Cluster grouping
  • In-class enrichment based upon individual educational needs
  • School-wide enrichment; grade levels may be combined around the choice of enrichment with the length of sessions extending over 10 weekly sessions
  • Specialized pull-out instruction in the Quest Program in grades 3-5; a minimum of 240 minutes/6 day rotation for students in grades 4-5; a minimum of 200 minutes for grade 3.
